Who We Are?

Welcome to Explore the Balkans or as we say hello in Macedonian (zdravo) and thank you for coming.

Many of you might know me but for those of you who I have yet to meet I was born in Skopje, Macedonia in the heart of the Balkans. Although I have lived in the United States for almost 25 years now while also being a US citizen for the last 15 there is deep felt warmth in my heart for my birthplace and homeland, Macedonia.

The country has a history rich in culture and is known for the warm and friendly nature of its people. Some of my most treasured memories are of the closeness and the strong bonds between neighbors often appearing any time with just a knock at the door, a big smile and a friendly zdravo. Yes a much slower pace of life I will admit. That is evident in the low stress and the longevity of the people which is “manifested into a happiness you rarely see in much of today’s world”.

The capitol of Macedonia is the city of Skopje which sits nestled in a valley surrounded by the Sar Mountains mountain range. This makes it the perfect place for skiers, mountain bikers, trail hikers or maybe those that just need to breathe some clean fresh air. For those that are a bit more adventurous maybe some kayaking down the Vardar River.

There is just too much to say and too much to share to express here in words, better for you to come and see for yourself. Please let me be your guide and let’s explore the Balkans together. I promise you the memories will be unique and they will last a lifetime.
